Margaret River Fencing now holds a "Restricted Asbestos Removal Licence".
Which simply means we are licened to remove amounts exceeding 10 square metres of bonded (non-friable) asbestos. Bonded asbestos contains material such as cement or rubber, which stabilises the product and gives it a non-friable structure.
Generally, asbestos can be found in homes built prior to 1985. If you are unsure whether your home or fence is asbestos, please refer to the following guidelines, taken from WA Department of Health:
" If the fence is cement-like and is, or could be pre-1990, then it is likely to be asbestos. The typical characteristic features of corrugated asbestos fences are:
•Brand name of “Super Six” (non-asbestos fencing is commonly named “Hardifence”);
•Usually 7 ridges per 1 metre wide panel (non- asbestos usually have 5 ridges);
•Use of diamond shaped metal fasteners (non- asbestos normally have none);
•Having a hessian (crosshatch-like) surface pattern (non- asbestos vertical linear dimple pattern); and/or
•Having asbestos cement capping (non- asbestos have metal capping). However, asbestos capping often may be missing or been replaced by metal capping. .
During the stormy winter months, we are frequently called out to replace fences that have blown down or been damaged. The majority of these are old asbestos fences. Should you find yourself in this unfortunate predicament, please call Margaret River Fencing, for an obligation free quote.
